The Wooden Tiers of a Ceramic
Sacred Frames and Silent Stories.
The Wooden Tiers of a Ceramic explores how objects, particularly ceramics, are encased, displayed and quietly forgotten over time. Drawing from personal heirlooms in my grandparents’ home and finds from the Saint-Quen flea market in Paris, the work reflects on how decorative items are either preserved or neglected, and how their meaning and significance shift across generations.
At the heart of the composition is an ornate wooden frame, originally intended for religious iconography. By recontextualising it within a contemporary setting, I challenge traditional modes of display and reinterpret the frame as a vessel for memory and storytelling. The result is a piece that repositions historical objects within a modern context, prompting the audience to reflect on the shifting value and visibility of once-sacred or sentimental possessions.
