Impression of a Memory

In this piece, absence holds presence.

Inspired by the antiques of a family home in Portugal and the soft patterns of a grandparent’s rug, this work explores memory not as clarity but as impression. Deep, rich colours evoke the warmth and weight of history, while white spaces speak of what time has worn away. Though the details have slipped in silence, their outlines remain quiet testaments to beauty once held, and still felt.

Although not every memory is remembered in visible detail, it can still be felt. The silhouette captures essence without clarity much like how antique objects and memories endure, even as their details fade with time. What’s missing can still hold meaning. In fact, the empty spaces are not empty at all; they are full of emotional resonance. This speaks to both nostalgia and the transience of life and objects.
